Connecting The Dots – Week 24
(The Living Word)
Key Verse: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men.” (John 1:1-4 NASB)
What does it mean to say that God’s Word is “alive”? Well, the most obvious answer is the beauty of synchronicity between our key verse and (Genesis 1:1-2, 26). All creation is, both now and from eternity past, a masterful symphony spoken into being by the perfect voice and perfect words of the triune “I AM”. (Job 38), (Isaiah 40:8)
• “For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:16-17 NASB)
• “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” (2 Corinthians 3:17 NASB)
• ”It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.” (John 6:63 NASB)
Where God’s life is indwelt, so then are His Spirit and His Words. Where His Spirit and Words are in operation, there are always liberty and power. Did you know that all of these abide in you through the fullness of God in Jesus Christ? (Colossians 1:19)
• “…you have been born again not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring word of God.” (1 Peter 1:23 NASB)
• “As for you, let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.” (1 John 2:24 NASB)
• ”For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Hebrews 4:12 NASB)
The living Word is in full effect when we have the faith and confidence to speak. When we put on the life of Jesus Christ, He becomes to us the sword of the Holy Spirit, the very power of God that creates reality when wielded in alignment with His will. Proverbs 18 says for good reason, “Death and life are in the power of the tongue”, and we will never be more aware of it than by examining the fruit our own words produce. (1 Corinthians 2:3-5), (Ephesians 4:29), (James 3:8-12)
• “But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may observe it.” (Deuteronomy 30:14 NASB)
• “Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.” (Ephesians 6:17-18 NASB)
Yes, Jesus (The Word) is alive in you and me to realize God’s purpose. But to bring His Kingdom to earth we must first receive His power within us, then agree with it as we speak His words of life into the world.
“But having the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed, therefore I spoke,” we also believe, therefore we also speak…” (2 Corinthians 4:13 NASB)
Questions to consider:
1. How is the spoken Word of God most alive in your daily routine?
2. How is the Rhema, (Revealed) Word of God most alive in the way you relate to people, circumstances, and the choices you make?
