I can sort of imagine how Abram must have felt when God told this:
"Now the LORD had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing." (Genesis 12:1-2 NKJV)
What God said to him was essentially, "Get out and go, leave everything familiar behind, and I will show you where we're headed later." Even though Abram heard God say he would be blessed and be a blessing, there had to have been some pretty weighty questions he wanted to ask in return... but he didn't.
Instead:
"Abram went forth as the LORD had spoken to him..." (Genesis 12:4 NASB)
The lesson for me today, and the one I bet Abram learned more than once as well, is that listening and doing always produces the same result when it comes to God. He rewards faith and obedience and places a high value on our trust. His word says those things are reckoned by Him, to us, as righteousness (Genesis 15:6, Galatians 3:6-7).
I know that God has told me, "Get out and go" more than once, and each time I've chosen His way (Faith) over my own (Anxiety) He not only does everything He says, but blessing inevitably follows. Why should this time be any different?
"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows." (James 1:17 NIV)
