Too many times we don't see any need to repent because we have trouble acknowledging our own sins. When we do acknowledge them we have trouble confessing our sin to anyone (especially God) because we don't want to speak them out loud. When the wheels start coming off the proverbial cart and we at last find the courage to confess our sins, we have trouble turning from them because we have found some twisted identity in the midst of them.
We are afraid to empty our hands and walk in the other direction because we aren't sure who we might become if we do. This pride is as old as creation, and is our enemy's playground. So what then? Are we stuck? Thanks be to God for his Grace and mercy!
