Listen, Go, and Do.

And the Lord said to him, "Get up and go to the street called Straight, and
inquire at the house of Judas for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is
praying." (Acts 9:11)

Connecting The Dots - Week 18 (Notes) Communion is every day

Connecting The Dots – Week 18

               Communion is every day

Key Verse: “For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes.” (1 Corinthians 11:26)

As we approach “Good Friday”, Jesus last meal and the commemoration or remembrance of what he did for us, it is also important to remember what he said.

“This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you is the new covenant in My blood.” (Luke 22:19-20 NASB)

Jesus gave us a symbolic way of remembering not just what he did, but also who he is, God:

“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day. For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.  As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also will live because of Me. This is the bread which came down out of heaven; not as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live forever.” (John 6:53-58 NASB)

...a way of remembering what he said we would do in being called by his Name, in being his disciples:

“Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?” They said to Him, “We are able.” He said to them, “My cup you shall drink” (Matthew 20:22-23 NASB)

…and lastly a way of remembering that our true “communion” for him and with him is everlasting:

“Do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you, for on Him the Father, God, has set His seal.” (John 6:27 NASB)

• “Then they said to Him, “Lord, always give us this bread.” Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.” (John 6:34-35 NASB)

As often as we remember Jesus we are both eating true food and drinking true drink. As often as we drink or eat, we are not only remembering him with our thoughts, but by our actions we are proclaiming him until he returns. So then, our communion with him is tangible and enduring! It is dynamic! It is every day!

“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.  And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:17-18 NIV)

Questions to consider:
1. How many ways during a typical day can you think of to have communion with Jesus?

2. What are some things you do or say on a regular basis that “proclaim the Lord” until he comes again?
