"You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot partake of the table of the Lord and the table of demons. Or do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? We are not stronger than He, are we?" (1 Corinthians 10:21-22)
So do you? God has kept up doing business with me about "choices" this week... But hold that thought a moment, I need to look something up...
"For we have become partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm until the end" (Hebrews 3:14)
Yep, there's that word "partakers" again. So let's start over. What does it mean to be partakers with Christ? Also, what is the beginning of our assurance and how do we hold fast to it?
"For this is the message which you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another" (1 John 3:11)
Being partakers with Christ is as simple as our getting up every morning and loving people.
"For the love of Christ controls us, having concluded this, that one died for all, therefore all died; and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf." (2 Corinthians 5:14-15)
Our assurance from the beginning is His Love for us, or more accurately our Salvation and all the weight that carries with it. My ability to Love as He Loves me then becomes the plumb line from which I measure everything else in my life.
So back to the first thought, and this may be one for you to consider as well... If my choices determine how effectively I am able to love people on a daily basis, then my choices also determine the cup and the table. Right??
"All things are lawful, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful, but not all things edify. Let no one seek his own good, but that of his neighbor." (1 Corinthians 10:23-24)
