Daily trials are a given, overcoming not so much. It's a choice, one that I have by God's Grace. Coincidentally it is also only by His Grace and in His Power I am able to be an overcomer.
When I get my eyes on worldly things rather than God's things, that's when I stumble, that's when I start to covet any but "God's best for me" and I fall down. Jesus' final words to Peter ring out across time and move my heart to surrender. For Peter as for us, Loving Jesus was a given, unconditionally following Him not so much. Jesus message to Peter was essentially, "If you do Love me then you will do what I say, go where I say go, and keep your eyes on Me not on circumstances or on what someone else may have or may not have. Just follow me." (John 14:15, Colossians 3:1-11)
“Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.” (John 21:15)
"So Peter seeing him said to Jesus, "Lord, and what about this man?" Jesus said to him, "If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!" (John 21:21-22)
I choose it Lord, I choose You and to follow Your way. Be my strength to overcome and stay the course. Help me keep my eyes on You and what You want of me, not seeking the approval of men. Not chasing after earthly things, but keeping my eyes fixed on Heaven.
In Jesus Name, Amen!
